If you've been sleeping under a rock, you've probably never heard of an NFT (Non-fungible token), but if you have access to the internet (even a dial-up connection), then you would know that NFTs, has been one of the hottest trends in 2021.

So what is an NFT? And how did Emonee LaRussa sell $40,000 in NFTs in just three months. We caught up with Emonee, to ask her just how she did it.

So who exactly is Emonee LaRussa? Emonee is a talented artist and content creator AND 2x Emmy Award (4x nominated) Winning Director & Animator that's produced incredible work for notable artists you might've heard of, such as Lil Nas X, Tyler The Creator, Kanye West, and more.

Before getting involved with NFT's, Emonee had already made a career from video animations as a digital designer. She has won 2x Emmy’s from her time at CBS, prior to any collaborations with any famous artists. One of the most pivotal career-changing moments is when she shared a project she was working on that went viral over Twitter. John Vincent Salcedo from Columbia Records, the record label giant, eventually caught wind of her work, leading to the opportunity to make a video for Lil Nas X.

The project's success led to other big-name artist collaborations.

When we met up with Emonee, we asked her what her process of working with an artist was like. She mentions that she has a filtering process before choosing to work with any artist, which can be anywhere from - are they producing new content, are they consistently active?

Non-Fungible Tokens

NFTs are technologies that certify a digital asset. This technology allows people to sell digital art for cryptocurrency by verifying the digital asset then storing it on the blockchain. Emonee eventually got into NFTs when she came across the platform Superrare.com.

This eventually led her to an app called Foundation. This community-driven platform gives artists and art collectors a new way to digitally interact with art and design culture. Foundation app gives a modern, new and unique twist to collecting art.

Not just anyone can display their work on Foundation, you have to be invited, but Emonee is not your average artist. Her first piece sold for upwards of 2 Ethereum, which was $3000USD at the time. From there, it was the stepping stone Emonee needed to hit $40,000 in 3 months.

NFTs take a long time to create so it's definitely not for the faint of heart, but Emonee says if you are dedicated to your craft and never give up, success is on the horizon.

As she began to grow as an artist, so did her following on social media. Emonee contributes her success from garnering support from family and friends to always staying busy and pushing out new content. Where talent meets dedication, she lets her portfolio speak for itself.

Giving Back

They say if you genuinely want to make a difference in the world, give back. Emonee is the living embodiment of this. She started a non-profit called "Jump Start Designers," dedicated to helping kids get access to graphic creating platforms such as Adobe CC to be able to start and get into digital design early. Jump Start Designers is looking to launch 6 NFTs in early July on all social media platforms as their launch campaign.

Emonee shared with us that she wants to inspire women, especially women of color, to break all stereotypes regarding a career in graphic design. She wants women to not only break barriers but to allow themselves to be creative and strong, especially in the world we live in today.
